If you cannot currently attend a PhD program in the United States, the best solution would be attaining an online degree from a university. Please see our page for online degrees here:

forensic scholarships

I used to be a social worker for Santa Clara county. They were offering a scholarship program to become a forensics specialist. I am wondering if any State governments or the Federal Government have any scholarships available for anything like this. I am a single parent, woman, and veteran and already have a Master's Degree in Psychology. I want a PhD but cannot afford one.

Kind Regards,
Tracy

PhD in Social Work or Psychiatry from University of Maryland

Earning a doctoral degree in social work, DSW, is reccommended for experienced social work professionals who wish to further their careers by gaining training in advanced practice, research, and policies. Much of the course load emphasizes both qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis and tends to lead towards a career in teaching, research, leadership roles, or opening one's own practice. You can learn more about social work degree programs and sign up for information here, Social Work Degree Info.

That being said, the doctor of psychology is a professional doctorate. Psychology degrees in the clinical sense include study in the areas of basic science, laboratory experience, and research.

In regards to the University of Maryland, you can obtain more information about their specific degree program directly by requesting more information on their CareersandEducaion page, here.
Doctorate Degrees

Doctorate Degree Quick Facts:

Doctorate degrees are the highest level of educational degrees that can be earned. Earning a doctorate degree is an equivalent to being a professor at the college or university where the candidate earned the doctorate degree.

There are three types of doctorate degrees: terminal, professional, and honorary.

Candidates seeking doctoral degrees will spend at least 5 to 6 years at a graduate school in order to give the candidate extensive knowledge in his or her field.

Candidates for doctorate degrees typically enjoy conducting meaningful research. They may also be interested in becoming a member of a teaching faculty to teach other students how to conduct research, how to become an expert in their field of study, etc. Some doctorate degree-seeking students are simply in it for the prestige of holding a Ph.D.

Recommended Doctorate Degree Colleges

      Capella University

Founded in 1993, Capella University was the inspiration of Stephen Shank, former CEO of the Tonka Corporation. Capella offers more than 700 online courses and undergraduate and graduate degree programs in more than 93 specialized areas of study. Capella's student body spans all 50 states and 63 countries. Capella's round-the-clock access allows students to download assignments, read and contribute to discussions, review faculty feedback, and more.

      California University of Technology

The California University of Technology (CalTech) was founded in 1891, with its goal to become a premier institute for technological and scientific research. With programs dedicated to areas such as aeronautics, computer science and astrophysics, CalTech has achieved this goal.

      University of Phoenix (Campus)

Founded in 1976 and located on a number of different campuses across the country as well as online, the University of Phoenix gives its students a chance to pursue their education while still maintaining a busy work schedule. The flexible scheduling is one of the highlights of the University of Phoenix, which allows students to take classes on their own time while still working at the same time.

      A.T. Still University

A.T. Still University was established in 1892 as the first School of Osteopathy (ASO) in the world. The institution is committed to scholarly inquiry that anticipates and addresses society's healthcare needs, encouraging its constituencies to become leaders in improving community health and wellness with a comprehensive appreciation of the interaction of body, mind, and spirit.
