Considering the wide range of professions that one can enter with a degree in sports sciences, there is a wide range of potential salaries.  For instance, the median annual salaries for physical therapists in 2006 was $66,200, according to a survey conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Sports coaches employed at colleges earned an annual mean income of $46,210 in 2007. Fitness trainers and aerobics instructors earned a mean annual income of $31,710 in 2006, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The field of sports sciences is vast. With a degree in sports sciences, one can go into exercise science, kinesiology, personal training, sports coaching, sports management, sports medicine, injury prevention and performance enhancement among others. This degree can lead to employment in clinics, educational institutions and even professional sports organizations. To prepare for a sports sciences career, you first need to figure out the area in which you want to work. This will determine the type of education and training you will need. Coursework may include anatomy, physiology, health and nutrition, kinesiology, and biology, or may largely encompass marketing and advertising material.

Examples/Details of Work
Physical therapists may work in private practices or hospitals to help patients manage bodily pain and optimize their range of motion.  Athletic coaches may instruct athletes at the professional level, or work for educational or nonprofit leagues. Fitness trainers instruct individuals or groups in exercise routines to optimize clients' physical performance, body image, and overall health, and may work in clients' homes or in fitness facilities. 

Obtainable Degrees
Degrees in sports sciences are offered at all different levels from certificates all the way up to doctorates. Many fields in the sports sciences require advanced degrees with specific concentrations and clinical practice. For example, to work in sports management, you would likely consider a bachelor's degree in sports sciences with a concentration in business and management. A job in personal training can be acquired with a certificate. However, your chances of gainful employment would be improved with an associate's degree in sports sciences and a supplemental certificate or concentration in personal training.
