There are multiple tracks in CCIE certification that one could pursue, such as Wireless, Data Center, Voice or Collaboration, Service Provider Ops, Security, Service Provider, and Routing and Switching. About five old tracks (Design, ISP/Dial, SNA/IP Integration, Storage networking and WAN switching) have been retired by Cisco. There are no prerequisites for this certification as such but recommended prerequisites include a networking experience of about 3 to 5 years because of the difficulty of the course and the focus on efficiency.
The job prospects of CCIE certified professionals are plenty and various organizations (even Cisco) come after professionals with this certification. In fact, this can easily be explained by the supply of CCIE certified professionals that account for less than 1% of the world’s network professionals’ population. Cisco also assigns a unique CCIE number to individuals who pass the program’s requirements.
