You may have seen the Sally Struthers’ commercials where she urges you to sign-up to be a private investigator, a bridal consultant, a medical transcriptionist, or medical billing specialist. Sally is the spokesperson for a technical school that is offering certificate programs.

Technical schools typically offer certificate programs like colleges and universities offer degree programs. Certificates can be earned for a number of careers including dental assistants, EMTs and Paramedics, HVAC technicians, certified nursing assistants (CNAs), and more.

What is a Certificate Program

Certificate programs allow you to choose a field of interest. Not every field of interest is offered, so candidates much choose from one of the certificate programs that is provided by the technical school of their choice.

Certificate programs tend to have shorter earning times than degree programs. Certificate programs allow students to quickly and easily earn their certificate and then enter directly into their chosen field as an employee.

Where Can Find Certificate Programs?

Technical schools or other schools that offer certificate programs usually have job placement services to help their students find employment after they have completed the certificate program. Schools that offer certificate programs have connections and agreements with employers in their area to offer jobs at an almost immediate rate to their students that have completed one of their certificate programs.

Is it Difficult to Earn a Certificate?

Certificate programs are also a fast way for a stay-at-home mom or dad that is ready to enter the workforce for the first time. If he or she does not have any work experience or formal secondary education degrees, certificate programs are a great way for him or her to learn a trade and enter the workforce in a shorter time frame than if he or she were to try and earn a college degree.

Certificate programs are also a fast and easy way to learn a trade that will allow individuals to earn a second income. Certain certificate program positions, like medical transcriptionists and billing and coding specialists to name two, are able to work from home.

This means that individuals can use these trades as supplemental income to their primary job after normal working hours. Oftentimes these second jobs can turn into their full-time positions when the time is right.

And finally, certificate programs are also used when someone would like to switch their trade or career quickly. Maybe someone has studied a certain degree in college but then finds that they don’t like working in that position in the business world. They may have an interest in one of the certificate programs, which will allow them to make a career switch with minimal time and money involved.
